Marketing Executive
Marketing Executives work alone or as part of a team to develop marketing campaigns that promote a product, service or idea. The role includes planning, advertising, public relations, organising events, product development, distribution, sponsorship and research.
What does the job entail?
The responsibilities of a marketing executive will vary, depending on the size of the company and whether the aim is to sell a product or service or raise awareness. Day to day tasks may include:
- Networking with customers
- Sourcing advertising opportunities
- Managing the production of marketing materials
- Maintaining and updating customer databases
- Organising and attending relevant events
- Monitoring competitor activity
Typical Career Routes
Progression within a Marketing department depends on the type and size of the company. In a large organisation, a Marketing Executive would look to progress after around 18 months in the role. Ultimately they may look to become Marketing Manager or Marketing Director which would involve greater responsibility including managing product launches, developing brand images and implementing full marketing plans.

Training and qualifications
Entry into the marketing sector usually requires a good standard of education up to degree level. Subjects such as Marketing, Business and Economics are considered to be relevant.
