Recruitment Manager
Recruitment Managers, as the title suggests, are responsible for managing all recruitment for a particular organisation. They work closely with line managers within their own organisation as well as external agencies such as job centres and recruitment agencies.
What does the job entail?
Duties include:
- Providing professional support and advice on recruitment to managers
- Advising managers on best practice recruitment and selection
- Preparing job descriptions and person specifications
- Writing job advertisements and deciding how jobs are advertised
- Developing creative recruitment solutions if the organisation is experiencing difficulties in attracting appropriate staff
- Screening application forms and short listing applicants
- Managing the selection process including interviews, psychometric tests and personality questionnaires
- Keeping up to date with current employment legislation
- Developing plans to relocate staff to new departments and jobs due to restructuring within an organisation
- Assisting in the implementation of redundancy programmes, which may include the development of early retirement packages and voluntary redundancy schemes
Typical Career Routes
Recent graduates are likely to begin their career in a varied role but in time may decide to pursue a more specialist career. Positions that can be considered include Compensation and Benefits Managers, Employee Relations Officers or Human Resources Managers.

- The ability to analyse and explain the legal framework regulating employment
- Integrity and approachability to ensure managers and staff feel able to discuss sensitive and confidential issues with you
Training and Qualifications
Although candidates do not need a particular degree to become a Recruitment Manager, subjects such as HR Management, Social Administration or Psychology may improve your chances.
Although it is possible to become a Recruitment Manager without being professionally qualified, a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) qualification may help assist career development.
