Press Officer
Press Officer – Katherine Adams

Who do you work for and what is your title?
I work for PR4 as Press Officer in the public sector department.
Can you describe what you do on a day to day basis?
First thing every morning I scan the news for any stories that might relate to our clients to ensure that we are fully aware of what is going on in the media that day.
On a day-to-day basis I set up interviews with journalists who are interested in writing a story about, or connected to, our client. My job also entails a lot of writing – of press releases, articles, interviewee briefings and, when required, defensive lines.
A press officer’s job is both proactive and reactive. I proactively sell in stories about our client to the press by ringing up journalists and pitching ideas, interviews and case studies that we think will appeal. This might be over the phone, in one-to-one meetings with the journalist or at networking events.
Our team also has regular meetings where we brainstorm ideas and think of new and inventive ways to get our clients’ name in the press.
Communicating what we are doing to the client is also key so we have weekly meetings with them and write daily and weekly reports so that they can see what we are working on and the progress that we have made with projects we have been commissioned to do.
Finally, I also co-ordinate the production of press cuttings and coverage books and help to organise events.
How did you hear about the job?
I heard about the job when I came to Yellow Cat for an interview with Adam and Jonny. I had done an MA in Journalism and wanted to move into PR so Jonny put be forward for a meeting with PR4. After a week’s work experience, I was offered a month’s contract which was then followed by the offer of a full-time job. I haven’t looked back since!
How would you describe your experience with Yellow Cat Recruitment?
Everyone at Yellow Cat have great sense of humours and are very friendly. They’re also extremely professional, hard working and efficient. Jonny showed how perceptive he was by knowing straight away that I would fit in well at PR4 and gave me some great advice as I was preparing for my interview. I would recommend Yellow Cat to anyone in need of work or any businesses who need some top quality staff. A recruitment company doesn’t come any better than this!
