Interview Tips
Be prepared
Once you have been selected for an interview it is vitally important you are as best prepared as possible. Some key preparation you can do is to make sure you know your CV thoroughly and understand what would be expected from you in the role you are interviewing for (read the job specification fully). It is always important to check out the website of the company you are going to see so that you learn more about the company and where it is possible read information on the people you are interviewing with.
Be clear on your directions
Map out your route and make sure you'll have enough time to get to the interview - there is nothing worse then turning up late!
Dress appropriately
When you’re preparing for an interview, it is always important to consider the kind of company you are visiting. For a bank you would want to go for formal attire such as a suit; for a media company, you may want to go for a slightly more 'funky' or stylish approach. But remember that it is always better to arrive at an interview overdressed than underdressed!
Answering difficult questions
When getting ready for an interview it is important to be prepared for any difficult questions that may arise. If you have any gaps in your CV can you explain them? If you only spent a short time with one company, what was your reason for leaving? Even if you have a very straight forward and easy to understand CV there may be areas that the employer or recruiter are unsure about so always ensure you read your CV fully before your interview. This will enable you to feel more confident when talking about your experiences and avoid making any mistakes when trying to remember any details.
The interview itself
Once in the interview, give a firm handshake, maintain eye contact and beware of your body language. Be confident, enthusiastic and speak clearly, allowing your personality to shine through. Listen carefully to all questions and be specific with your answers. It is always good to have a few questions to ask as well.
The final part
Finally thank the interviewer at the end of the interview and reiterate your interest in the position. This goes a long way!
