Ensuring the 'Dynamics' are Right
The market is tough and if you want your business to succeed during these times you need to be aware of the whole functionality of your office dynamics. Getting this right is key to elevating a platform to come out of the recession on a positive note.
As the Director of Yellow Cat Recruitment I am continually thinking about how other companies and other people perceive us and how we they can benefit from our services. Adding different products and services keeps us ahead of the chasing pack and allows us to offer distinct USP’s to our clients. In constantly looking for better ways to be the best you need to evolve how you function as a team and how you can do things in a more efficient and effective way. I constantly assess each employee who works for me and ensure they are playing to what I believe are their strengths, remembering that a team needs to work in complete cohesion to be successful. Don’t make the mistake of purely making sure people are following the same job spec week after week… you need them to adapt as your business values adapt.
Building and maintaining a successful team in this type of market will add a stronger morale across your company that will in turn possibly rub off on your clients.
5 Top Tactics for Getting the Dynamics Right (Football metaphors)
- Assemble a good squad of players – ensure that every employee within your business has a purpose and adds value to your company. Appoint extra (freelance) staff if certain areas need it. You need a mix of individuals, not a team full of the same skills.
- Decide on your formation and tactics – assess your competitors and decide on your method of play. Remember to be adaptable to what your market is doing… don’t use tactics that aren’t working.
- Motivate and develop your players – encourage your staff and set them realistic targets with incentives connected. Look to give them regular progression reports and develop their skills with courses, one to one training, man management sessions etc…
- Leadership of your players – lead by example and captain your team. Be ready to get stuck in and show your qualities from leading from the front. Watch as your employees follow!
- Fitness and well-being – fitness in body and mind. You need everyone pulling together and working at 110%. Sluggish and de-motivated individuals can have a detrimental effect on your business.
