Challenging time ahead for new graduates

Students looking for graduate jobs in London are entering into an improving, but still highly-competitive job market, according to a recent survey by CareerBuilder.co.uk.

23% of employers surveyed said that they planned to hire recent graduates within the next 12 months, while 77% said they have placed graduate recruitment plans on hold until further notice.

Of the 23% planning to hire, 67% believe that starting salaries will remain the same compared to 2009. 6% expect pay to be higher and 11% expect it to be lower.

More than a quarter (28%) of UK employers plan to offer recent graduates starting salaries ranging between £20-30,000.

“While we are seeing more jobs posted on our site in the UK, the job market will remain challenging for those entering the workforce for the first time,” said Tony Roy, President of CareerBuilder EMEA.

“It’s important to be flexible. You may not get your dream job right away, but look for those opportunities that will afford you good experience and expand your professional network.”

Yellow Cat are now our exclusive recruitment agency, having demonstrated a real understanding of our business needs, the working environment and the personality of the company. Every one of their candidates is a credible contender and their hit rate is extraordinary. I recommend them.
